Meet Austin: Our youngest volunteer bringing Heart to the Colts

If you’ve stopped by the Brownhills Community Colts on a Saturday morning, you might have noticed a whirlwind of activity – tickets being sold, subs payments handled with precision, a bit of fresh paint bringing the place to life, and, if you’re lucky, the irresistible aroma of a breakfast sarnie wafting from the Colts Café. Behind so much of this action is our youngest – and perhaps most enthusiastic – volunteer, Austin.

At just 10 years old, Austin puts many of us to shame with his dedication. While most of his mates are having a lie-in, Austin’s up and out the door, ready to give his Saturday morning to the club he loves. Whether it’s working the office desk, deftly juggling subs and event tickets, or lending a brush during the recent refurb, nothing is ever too much trouble for this lad.

But there’s more to Austin than his can-do attitude and impressive work ethic. His real passion? Cooking! Austin is an absolute star in the kitchen. Not content to simply watch from the sidelines, he took it upon himself to earn his Food Hygiene certificate (quite the achievement for someone his age!). Now, you’ll find him alongside our chef Will in the Colts Café, whipping up breakfast sandwiches that have quickly become the stuff of legend among our regulars.

Austin’s commitment and energy are infectious. He’s always got a smile to brighten up even the dampest Saturday morning, and he’s proof that volunteering isn’t just for the grown-ups. His willingness to pitch in wherever needed, be it with a paintbrush, a cash till, or a frying pan, is a shining example of what makes our Colts community so special.

So next time you’re at the ground, grabbing a cuppa or tucking into a bacon butty, give Austin a wave – or better yet, a thank you. He’s the young heart of our club, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him on the team.
